    (Phrase). No sooner said than done.

  1. Leisure (Substantives), leisureliness, spare time, breathing-time, off-time, slack time, holiday, bank- holiday, vacation, recess, red-letter day, repose.
  2. (Phrases). Otium cum dignitate; time to spare; time on one's hands.

    (Verbs). To have leisure, take one's leisure, repose 687, pause.

    (Phrase). To shut up shop.

    (Adjectives). Leisurely, undisturbed, quiet, deliberate, calm, reposing, etc.

    (Adverbs). Leisurely, etc., at leisure.

  3. Exertion (Substantives), labour, work, toil, fag, exercise, travail, sweat, exercitation, duty, trouble, pains, ado, drudgery, fagging, slavery, operoseness.
  4. Effort, strain, grind, tug, stress, tension, throw, stretch, struggle, spell, etc.

    (Phrases). A stitch of work; the sweat of one's brow.

    (Verbs). To labour, work, exert oneself, toil, strive, use exertion, fag, strain, drudge, take pains, take trouble, trouble oneself, slave, pull, tug, ply the oar, rough it, sweat, bestir oneself, get up steam, get a move on, fall to work, buckle to, stick to.

    (Phrases). To set one's shoulder to the wheel; to strain every nerve; to do as much as in one lies; to work day and night; to do double duty; to work double tides; to put forth one's strength, etc.; to work like a galley- slave (see 682); to go through fire and water; to put one's best leg forward; to do one's level best; to grub along; to lay oneself out.

    (Adjectives). Labouring, etc., laborious, toilsome, troublesome, operose, herculean, gymnastic, palèstric.

    Hard-working, painstaking, strenuous 682.

    (Adverb). Laboriously, etc.

    (Phrases). By the sweat of the brow; suo marte; with all one's might; totis viribus; with might and main; vi et armis; with tooth and nail; unguibus et rostro; hammer and tongs; through thick and thin; heart and soul.

  5. Repose (Substantives), rest, halt, pause, relaxation, breathing - time, respite, see Leisure 685.
  6. Day of rest Sabbath, holiday.

    (Verbs). To repose, rest, relax, take rest, breathe, take breath, take one's ease, gather breath, recover one's breath, respire, pause, halt, stay one's hand, lay to, lie by, lie fallow, recline, lie down, go to rest, go to bed, go to sleep, etc., unbend, slacken.

    (Phrases). To rest upon one's oars; to take a holiday; to shut up shop.

    (Adjectives). Reposing, resting, etc., restful, unstrained.

  7. Fatigue (Substantives), lassitude, weariness, tiredness, exhaustion, sweat, collapse, prostration, swoon, faintness, faint, deliquium, syncope, yawning, anhelation; overstrain.
