Here Freud considers the progression of the sexual instinct from being auto-erotic to finding a sexual object; from consisting of various independent instincts, to incorporating them all and subordinating the erotogenic zones to the primacy of the genital zone. The two sexes develop different sexual aims, in accordance with their different physical developments.
